COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions
  • In North Carolina, newly licensed Provisional Brokers must complete 90 hours of post-licensing education to remove their "provisional" status and become full Brokers. The North Carolina Real Estate Commission (NCREC) divides this into three distinct 30-hour courses: Post 301 (Broker Relationships & Responsibilities), Post 302 (Contracts & Closing), and Post 303 (NC Law, Rules, & Legal Concepts).

  • You must complete all 90 hours of post-licensing education within 18 months of your initial licensure date. You can choose to take all three courses back-to-back, or spread them out over the 18-month period, as long as all three course exams are passed before your deadline.

  • If you fail to complete all three 30-hour courses by your 18-month anniversary date, your North Carolina real estate license will automatically be placed on inactive status. You will be legally prohibited from practicing real estate, representing clients, or earning any commissions until the outstanding education is completed and your license is formally reactivated.

  • No. The NCREC does not require you to take the courses in sequential order. You can take them in any order that fits your schedule. However, many students find it helpful to start with Post 301 to build a solid foundational understanding of agency relationships before moving into contracts (302) and state laws (303).

  • Yes! The NCREC allows Provisional Brokers to complete their post-licensing requirements online. Fastpass Learning offers fully approved, self-paced online courses, allowing you to fulfill your 90-hour requirement from home, on your own schedule, without needing to commute to a physical classroom.

  • No, there is no comprehensive state-administered exam for post-licensing. To get credit, you simply need to pass the individual final course exam at the end of each 30-hour module (Post 301, 302, and 303). Once you pass a course exam, your provider will report your completion directly to the NCREC.
