Most students complete the process of getting an Ohio real estate license in 2 to 4 months. The fastest route is to enroll in an online, self-paced pre-licensing course so you can complete the mandatory 100 hours of education as quickly as your schedule allows. After finishing your course, you will need to pass a background check, secure a sponsoring broker, and pass the state exam.
To become a licensed real estate salesperson in Ohio, you must be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma (or equivalent), and not have any disqualifying criminal convictions. You must then complete 100 hours of state-approved real estate education, submit a background check, be sponsored by an active Ohio broker, and pass both the state and national portions of the Ohio real estate exam.
The state of Ohio currently requires exactly 100 hours of approved pre-licensing education. This coursework is broken down into four distinct subjects: Real Estate Principles and Practices (40 hours), Ohio Real Estate Law (40 hours), Real Estate Appraisal (10 hours), and Real Estate Finance (10 hours).
The total cost to get your Ohio real estate license typically ranges between $400 and $700. This includes your 100-hour pre-licensing course, an $81 state application fee (paid to the Division of Real Estate), roughly $80 for digital fingerprinting, and the $63 state exam testing fee.
The Ohio real estate salesperson exam consists of 120 multiple-choice questions (80 national questions and 40 state-specific questions). You are given 3 hours to complete the test, and you must achieve a score of at least 70% on both sections to pass. Utilizing high-quality exam prep with simulated practice tests is highly recommended to pass on your first attempt.
